Update on Water Supply Situation on Weds 29th December 2010 at 4.00pm

DCC Water Restrictions

From 3.00pm on Wednesday 29th December 2010

The thaw has severely affected the water mains network.  Water leakage has increased considerably and the situation remains critical with demand for water still outstripping supply.  In order to stop the drop in treated water storage it is essential that we continue to impose restrictions.  The restrictions were extended in duration from last night.  Details of the restrictions for tonight (29th Dec – 30th Dec) are given below.  The restrictions have reduced demand but drinking water storage dropped yesterday (28th December).  It is likely that the current restrictions will remain in place throughout next weekend.  However the situation will be reviewed on a daily basis and the restrictions may be altered as necessary.

Tankers have been sent to the following locations today: (from 10:00am  to 4:30pm)

  • Artane Castle, Shopping Centre (Off Skellys lane), Coolock.
  • Sports ground, off Middle Third & near Abbeyfield, Killester.
  • Northside Shopping Centre, Oscar Traynor Rd.
  • Shopping Centre, Off Lorcan Ave.
  • Aldi, Santry Avenue
  • Blackhall Place, Smithfield
  • St. Margaret’s Road (at Hampton Wood)
  • Lidl Carpark, Jamestown Road

These locations may change in response to need.

The following locations may experience loss of supply due to localised problems.

Customers should be aware that unlike some other utilities, water distribution systems cannot be operated and managed to the point where the exact locations and precise times at which the effects of pressure alternations (both increases and decreases) will be experienced, however we do make every effort to ensure that the times and areas effected are limited to those mentioned above.

We would like to thank people for their patience and cooperation and we would ask that they report locations where they see water running/rising to mainswatercomplaints@dublincity.ie

Bogus callers may use the current water problems to gain access to houses.  If a member of Dublin City Council calls to a property they will always carry and produce identification.  If the caller asks you to check the flow of water at the taps, close the door fully while you do so.  If you are in any doubt as to the caller’s identity, please do not allow access to your premises.
